About The Position
Western State Hospital is seeking a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Floater to provide cross-coverage across the facility while delivering psychiatric care as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for assigned units and provide Staff On-Duty and Psych Backup coverage for the hospital as scheduled.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Licensed Psychiatric/Mental Nurse Practitioner with Autonomous Practice and Prescriptive Authority in Virginia.
- Active DEA registration prior to the approval of clinical privilege(s).

Responsibilities
- Providing direct psychiatric care of patients on the assigned unit including: Psychiatric assessment; Patient and family interviews; Psychopharmacologic management; etc.
- Planning and implementing psychiatric, medical, and behavioral rehabilitation treatment plans for patients on this service
- Liaison with community mental health center staff in preparing and implementing patient discharge plans
- Supervision of psychiatric nurse practitioner students
- Reviewing of case formulations, treatment plans, documentation, and other activities of nursing students on the service
- Reviewing orders, emergency decisions, and treatment plans made by others (ODs) for patients on the service
