About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Autonomic Laboratory Director and Autonomic Practice Manager to provide assistance to patients in the Autonomic Lab and conduct standard autonomic testing as requested by physicians.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years related work experience required.
  • 1+ years experience in patient care services
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or Technical training in Electromyography Technician Training Program or equivalent preferred.
  • Training in patient care skills such as medical assisting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs autonomic testing on patients referred to the Autonomic Laboratory. Records pertinent history of the patient's primary symptoms. Outlines the nature of the procedures and tests with the patient. Answers questions patients may have as to hazards or discomforts presented by the test or procedures.
  • Determines the autonomic studies to perform based on laboratory protocol, interview with patient and consultation with the covering physician.
  • When testing is performed on hospital inpatients, ensures that patients are ready to be transported back to the unit promptly and safely when tests are completed.
  • Prepares a summary report of the autonomic data according to laboratory protocols.
  • Prioritizes patients through the autonomic laboratory to ensure that urgent studies are conducted promptly. Ensures all other requests for autonomic tests are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains a high standard of cleanliness in the laboratory and completes the proper care and sterilization of reusable equipment. Orders electrodes and other autonomic laboratory supplies. Ensures the proper maintenance and function of the equipment used in the laboratory. Conducts quality control testing of equipment as necessary.
  • Participates in continuing education programs and workshops; reviews and keeps abreast of anatomical, clinical, or electrophysiological publications. May research articles for lecture presentations for the physicians to present on the study of electromyography. Contributes to preparing seminars for autonomic rounds and autonomic laboratory meetings. Attends autonomic rounds and resident rounds as requested.
