About The Position

NSG Group/Pilkington is seeking an Automotive Tooling Engineer to design, develop, and support new and existing automotive glass tooling products and processes. This role involves identifying and developing OE Engineering group processes, facilitating project design and validation, and acting as an engineering interface with plant process owners and tooling vendors. The engineer will also research new materials, assist plants with tooling trials and maintenance, and contribute to tooling standardization databases. Collaboration with internal and external customers, program teams, and the Advanced Assembly team is crucial for ensuring product consistency and proper integration with assembly processes. The position requires adherence to safety regulations and company standards, with the ability to travel 10-15% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience in mechanical design and detailing.
  • Understanding of the fabrication manufacturing industry that involves CNC machining and welding.
  • Experience in using problem-solving models and providing statistical data to support results.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD applications.
  • Knowledge of GDT and tolerance stack-up analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Project management experience in automotive field.
  • Experience in Creo CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support new and existing automotive glass tooling products and processes (artwork, shaping, tempering, lamination, inspection).
  • Identify, develop, and support OE Engineering group processes (product and tooling design, simulation, surfacing, CMM, laser scanning, flat shape development, artwork, data management, vendor/supplier development).
  • Facilitate the design, development, and validation of simultaneous projects, ensuring delivery schedules and budgets are met.
  • Act as engineering interface with plant process owners and tooling vendors/suppliers.
  • Support engineering activities with internal and external customers.
  • Research and develop new and existing materials for products and processes to mitigate risks.
  • Assist plants with initial tooling trials and first part development on NMI programs.
  • Assist plants with tooling-related maintenance and engineering change requests.
  • Assist in the population and maintenance of tooling standardization and tool activity databases.
  • Maintain clear verbal and written communications with project teams and manufacturing plants.
  • Work within a team environment to identify and resolve key process issues.
  • Interface with OE Engineering team on part design, tool design, and process design, including working with the Advanced Assembly team.
  • Work in compliance with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.
