Penn State is searching for a full time Automotive Technician - Grade 3 to join the team. Duties include servicing and repairing automobiles, trucks, and various pieces of road, farm, lawn, and golf course equipment. The role involves accurately locating problems, determining the extent of repairs needed, and performing those repairs. This includes selecting and ordering necessary replacement parts or assemblies, and then removing, disassembling, repairing, reassembling, reinstalling, testing, and adjusting component parts such as gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, alternators, generators, carburetors, electrical systems, drive shafts, differentials, and brake systems. The technician will perform minor repairs and major overhauls under qualified supervision, detect unusual conditions or defective materials, and report them to a supervisor. A significant part of the role involves diagnosing and repairing automobile climate control systems, using diagnostic equipment and determining the extent of repair work needed. The technician will also inspect vehicles according to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Inspection regulations, maintain work areas, requisition parts, and occasionally direct the work of lower-grade employees. Minor body repair to vehicles may also be required. The role involves operating various testing and repair equipment and maintaining records of inspections.
