About The Position

This hands-on engineering role focuses on keeping vehicles on the road by transforming complex automotive components into like-new, OEM-performing remanufactured products. The engineer will be responsible for the engineering definition, repair strategy, validation, and continuous improvement of high-mix automotive remanufactured components, collaborating daily with manufacturing, quality, testing, and suppliers. CRP is a 70-year old family/veteran owned business and a leading North American supplier to the automotive and industrial service markets. The company operates remanufacturing and distribution centers across North America and is known for Quality, Service, and Trust.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • 2–5 years of engineering experience in automotive components, electronics, mechatronics, manufacturing, or remanufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation; comfort maintaining structured engineering documentation.
  • Structured problem-solving mindset and strong analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, inspection equipment, and test systems.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, shop-floor-friendly working style.
  • Willingness to learn and work within quality systems and standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, or similar).
  • Ability to work in and around manufacturing/testing areas; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional travel to suppliers or other company sites.

Responsibilities

  • Support the engineering research and development of remanufactured automotive components (mechanical, electrical, electronic, and mechatronic assemblies).
  • Create, update, and maintain drawings, schematics, bills of material (BOMs), work instructions, repair limits, and other engineering documentation.
  • Define and improve repair methods/solutions for mechanical, electronic, and electromechanical subcomponents, products, and assemblies.
  • Partner with manufacturing to support disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, and end-of-line testing in a high-mix remanufacturing environment.
  • Support functional/performance testing and diagnostics; interpret test results, inspection data, and failure modes to troubleshoot issues and assist with root cause analysis.
  • Design and develop components, tooling, jigs, and fixtures using 3D CAD (Fusion360/SolidWorks), 2D drawings, and DFM principles.
  • Support in-house manufacturing/fabrication with hands-on exposure to CNC, lathes, and end milling equipment.
  • Perform/assist with PFMEA, control plans, and other quality documentation; support closure of nonconformances and corrective actions.
  • Support diagnosis of vehicle communication systems (CAN bus and FlexRay) issues for remanufactured products, and help manage configuration/software revisions as needed.
  • Support supplier interactions related to components, repairs, and technical issues; ensure sourced components meet CRP Industries requirements.
  • Contribute to cost, yield, and continuous improvement initiatives through repair optimization, improved reuse rates, and process efficiencies.
