About The Position

Dent Wizard is seeking an experienced Automotive Paint Prepper to join their team. This role is essential in supporting Paint Technicians by preparing vehicles for the painting process. The job involves washing vehicles, identifying and rectifying imperfections on panels, treating scratches and chips, taping vehicles to ensure precise painting, smoothing rough spots, and preparing vehicles for buffing after painting. The role also includes quality control, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety protocols. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of painting and surface preparation techniques.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.
  • Toughness and grit to work outside in all kinds of weather.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in wheel refurbishing or automotive repair is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience in paint preparation, automotive refinishing, or a related field is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Wash vehicles, locate and remove imperfections on panels, and treat scratches and chips with plastic or liquid filler.
  • Tape vehicles to ensure only intended parts are painted.
  • Smooth rough spots.
  • Remove tape, clean the vehicle, and prepare it for buffing after painting.
  • Perform surface preparation, including inspecting wheels for damage and evaluating surface condition.
  • Remove dirt, dust, and contaminants from surfaces using cleaning agents and solvents.
  • Sand surfaces to create a smooth texture for paint adhesion and repair minor imperfections.
  • Apply masking tape, paper, or other protective materials to areas not to be painted.
  • Apply primer to surfaces for paint adhesion and corrosion resistance, and sand primed surfaces.
  • Clean and maintain painting equipment, including spray guns and paint booths.
  • Follow safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Maintain records of preparation processes, materials used, and any issues or defects encountered.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
