This Position reports to: Mechanical Engineering Manager In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Each day, you will complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects. This role is contributing to the PPA (Paint Process and Applications) Group in Auburn Hills, MI; your main stakeholders are Automotive Robotics. The work model for the role is: Onsite in Auburn Hills, MI

Requirements

  • Degree in Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required along with a minimum of 1 year of Project Engineering experience.
  • Understanding of Fluids Schematics, design, build, troubleshoot Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems is required.
  • Prior experience with both AutoCAD and SolidWorks is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, fluent in English language.
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of FEA - Finite Element Analysis (Design Structure, Run Analysis, Understand Risks Associated with Structural Design, etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the paint process methodology in Automated Paint Applications is preferred; passionate about constantly learning new technologies with robotics and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard techniques and procedures to perform engineering assignments.
  • Providing technical support for testing, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Assisting in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects.
  • Utilizing checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelines.
  • Main customer interface on technical issues (mechanical and process focused).
  • Actively plan and lead/ perform mechanical engineering and design activities for respective projects.
  • Enforce project team use of ABB internal processes and procedures.
  • Actively perform engineering, and lead engineering resources as required to maintain project schedule and budget requirements.
  • Enforce adherence to established customer specifications.
  • Complete assignments on small and large projects in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards.
  • Supporting Paint Process Applications for Automotive Robotics; understanding of automated paint applications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD for 2D drafting and SolidWorks for 3D modeling.
