As an Automotive Mechanic with the Department of Transportation, you work on a wide mix of vehicles and tools that support daily operations across Pennsylvania. You sharpen your skills through hands-on repairs, inspections, and maintenance. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in doing things the right way.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic for Class 7 vehicles.
  • Must provide your own mechanics toolbox and basic tool set.
  • Must possess a CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate and a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate upon hire.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment while replacing worn or damaged parts
  • Carry out routine servicing including oil changes, tune-ups, tire changes, and adjustments to major systems
  • Complete official safety and emissions inspections, apply inspection stickers, and finalize required records
  • Service diesel equipment by replacing components, repairing systems, and conducting basic maintenance tasks
  • Provide emergency road service and complete repairs outside the garage when required
  • Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries promptly
