The Department of Transportation is seeking an Automotive Mechanic who enjoys solving mechanical challenges and working with a variety of vehicles. This position performs maintenance, inspections and repairs on vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools used in transportation operations. The role ensures equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready for daily use.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment
  • Complete oil changes, diagnostics, tune-ups, and servicing of mechanical systems
  • Conduct official state inspections and ensure repairs meet required specifications
  • Replace parts, filters and perform system repairs on diesel-powered equipment
  • Provide emergency road service and perform maintenance at stockpile locations when needed
  • Maintain equipment records and obtain parts and supplies for repair activities
