About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an entry-level Automotive Mechanic Trainee for their Fleet Maintenance group in Herndon, VA. This position offers the opportunity to develop skills for advancement as an Automotive Mechanic. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and performing maintenance on a variety of on-road and off-road equipment with diesel and gas engines, and automatic and manual transmissions. The successful candidate will work with various departments to understand their needs, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair vehicles and equipment, ensure safety regulations are followed, and utilize technology for analysis and tracking. Overtime may be required, and the work is primarily in a shop environment but may sometimes require outdoor response. This position is physically demanding. Requirements

  • HS diploma or GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must obtain a CDL learner's permit within 1 month of employment and a CDL prior to 6 months of employment
  • General knowledge of gas combustion engines, diesel engines, air conditioning
  • Must possess basic hand tools or be willing to purchase tools needed to perform the job
  • Pass drug screening and background checks
  • Be eligible to obtain a state inspection license after an appropriate amount of time in training program

Nice To Haves

  • Professional combustion engine mechanic or graduate of a recognized Automotive Mechanic Training school
  • 1 year of professional automotive mechanic experience
  • Experience in electrical systems diagnostics and repair
  • Experience in Air Conditioning diagnostics, repair and A/C certification
  • Experience in Engine ignition diagnostics and repair
  • Experience in hydraulics
  • Heavy Truck certification
  • State Inspection license
  • Commercial Driver's license
  • Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) graduates
  • Military veterans
  • Candidates with an Associate Degree in a related field or major
  • Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies

Responsibilities

  • Working with customers in Construction, Operations, Substation, Transmission, and other departments to understand their needs and issues.
  • Performing various Preventative Maintenance tasks, including oil and other fluid changes, tire changes, etc.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing light duty vehicles, diesel engines, hydraulic equipment, drive trains, air brakes, etc.
  • Ensuring safety rules and regulations are observed in the garage or other worksite.
  • Leveraging technology to analyze issues, track customer needs, time spent on maintenance/repair tasks, and parts used.
  • Performing all other duties, as assigned.
