About The Position

SimTech, Inc. is seeking an Automotive Mechanic, Mid-Level, to join their team in Huntsville, AL. This role involves maintaining and repairing a fleet of light and medium-duty gasoline vehicles, focusing on preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs across various vehicle systems to ensure safety, compliance, and availability. The mechanic will collaborate with drivers and fleet coordinators, maintain service records, and respond to field breakdowns. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing light and medium-duty gasoline vehicles.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic scan tools, multimeters, and OEM service information to troubleshoot drivability and electrical issues.
  • Solid working knowledge of brake, steering, suspension, and driveline systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals and to diagnose 12-volt electrical faults.
  • Must supply own basic hand tools; specialty and diagnostic tools are provided.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to road test fleet vehicles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an automotive technology program is preferred.
  • ASE certifications (A-series and/or T-series) are preferred.
  • Class B CDL, or the ability to obtain one, is preferred.
  • DOT annual inspector qualification is preferred.
  • EPA Section 609 refrigerant handling certification is preferred.
  • Basic MIG welding and fabrication skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles, including oil and filter changes, fluid services, lubrication, belts, hoses, and multi-point inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, driveline, steering, suspension, and brake systems on light and medium-duty gasoline vehicles.
  • Use OEM and aftermarket scan tools and service information systems to read fault codes, interpret live data, and isolate drivability, electrical, and electronic problems.
  • Diagnose and repair 12-volt electrical systems, including charging, starting, lighting, wiring harnesses, control modules, and upfit accessory circuits.
  • Inspect, service, and replace hydraulic brake components, including pads, rotors, drums, calipers, lines, and ABS components.
  • Diagnose and repair cooling systems, including radiators, hoses, water pumps, thermostats, and coolant leaks, and service cab HVAC systems.
  • Mount, balance, rotate, and repair tires, inspect wheels, bearings, and hubs, and perform or coordinate alignments.
  • Perform DOT annual inspections and readiness checks and keep vehicles compliant with federal and state safety requirements.
  • Install and maintain upfit equipment such as shelving, lift gates, auxiliary power, lighting, and telematics devices.
  • Respond to on-site and road-call breakdowns, perform field repairs, and coordinate towing when needed.
  • Document work orders, parts usage, labor, and inspection results in the fleet maintenance system and maintain accurate service histories.
  • Order and manage parts, fluids, and shop supplies, and keep shop tools and equipment in safe working condition.
  • Follow shop safety practices, including lift operation, hazardous material handling, and proper disposal of fluids and used parts.
