Under general supervision, performs skilled work of considerable difficulty in repairing, maintaining, and rebuilding automotive vehicles. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various systems on diesel and gas equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring the fleet of construction vehicles, including engines, transmissions, electrical/electronic systems, backup alarms, and tires, are in good running condition and appearance. The position also includes repairing and maintaining County equipment in compliance with DOT regulations, fueling heavy equipment, fabricating and welding specialized equipment, and working with other mechanics on a wide range of County equipment. Additionally, the role requires completing work records, communicating with other employees about vehicle issues, and reading manuals and diagrams to understand equipment and parts.
