The work involves performing repairs requiring a high level of skill to diesel and gasoline powered automotive equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, and heavy trucks. This class differs from Automotive Mechanic by virtue of required knowledge of and skill in maintaining fuel injection and supercharging systems common to diesel power plants. Incumbents also repair vehicle drive trains and chassis. General instructions are received regarding tasks to be done, permitting considerable leeway in planning the details of each assignment. An Automotive Mechanic (Diesel) does related work as required as assigned by the Garage Manager.
