Automotive Installation Technician
About The Position
Protech Automotive Solutions is hiring an Automotive Installation Technician to install and support fleet technology on cars, trucks, tractors, trailers, and other fleet assets. The role suits candidates with hands-on automotive, mechanical, electrical, fleet, or installation experience who are interested in learning new technology. The technician installs and troubleshoots GPS, telematics, cameras, sensors, and related equipment, with a focus on safety, quality, and completing installations correctly the first time. Work includes mobile travel to customer and fleet locations. Training and career development are provided, and automotive experience can transfer to fleet technology work.
Requirements
- Hands-on automotive, electrical, mechanical, or installation experience.
- Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and basic diagnostics.
- Comfort using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and technical instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Comfort working independently in a mobile environment.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in quality work.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in, around, and underneath vehicles and trailers.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. with no restrictions.
Nice To Haves
- Telematics/GPS/ELD installation experience.
- Experience with Samsara, Geotab, Motive, Verizon Connect, Lytx, or similar platforms.
- 12V/24V electrical experience.
- Commercial truck or trailer experience.
- ADAS scanning or calibration experience.
- ASE, I-CAR, or related certifications.
Responsibilities
- Install and troubleshoot GPS, ELDs, telematics, dash cameras, sensors, and tracking equipment.
- Work on light-duty vehicles, commercial trucks, tractors, trailers, and other fleet assets.
- Perform basic 12V/24V wiring, including power, ignition, ground, diagnostic, and trailer connections.
- Route and secure wiring for clean, professional installations.
- Test GPS, cellular connectivity, cameras, sensors, and system functionality.
- Diagnose electrical, connectivity, and installation issues.
- Document completed installations with photos, device information, and service notes.
- Travel to customer and fleet locations for mobile installations and projects.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and right-first-time installations.
