About The Position

AutoSavvy is a rapidly growing automotive dealer with 20 stores across 11 states, seeking talented individuals to support its expansion. We are looking for an experienced Reconditioned and Salvage Vehicle (Car) Buyer or Body and Frame Inspector to join our Purchasing Team. This role involves purchasing vehicles from auctions, rebuilder shops, and trade networks, and inspecting vehicles within the Raleigh, North Carolina work area. We are an achievement-oriented, promote-from-within organization focused on innovating the retail automotive industry and providing meaningful work with opportunities for learning vital roles and skills.

Requirements

  • Prior automotive industry experience required.
  • 3-5 years of previous buying experience either as a buyer or a used car manager.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to identify proper body repairs.
  • Comfortable with technology-based platforms, V-Auto specifically.
  • Excellent negotiator with the ability to spot opportunities and act on them.
  • Excellent communicator with a great ability to build rapport and attract builders and other suppliers.
  • Must be polite, professional, energetic, and presentable, with strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Must be comfortable working independently, skilled at listening, problem-solving, and communication.
  • Experienced in hunting new business opportunities using current and innovative techniques.
  • Thirst for career development and continuous learning.
  • Valid driver's license, a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and a background check.
  • Ability to work in all elements of weather.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a multi-point inspection to identify all necessary repairs, recommending only those that are needed.
  • Diagnose and identify root cause concerns as discussed with the customer.
  • Test drive vehicles to verify concerns as necessary.
  • Work with suppliers and AutoSavvy personnel to identify mechanical repairs and create parts and labor estimates.
  • Test drive and inspect repaired vehicles to ensure problems are fixed.
  • Perform a complete post-repair inspection for quality, safety, and reliability.
  • Communicate any failed items during quality control inspections.
  • Maintain the shop and service area for cleanliness.
  • Participate in Daily Stand-up Scrum Meetings, Weekly Sprint Reviews, and Monthly personal development reviews.
  • Source, establish, and maintain relationships with salvage title vehicle rebuilders/suppliers, auctions, and other sources for purchasing vehicles.
  • Conduct cold calling and direct shop visits, documenting supplier visits properly.
  • Engage suppliers in professional relationships, demonstrate financial benefits, and resolve concerns.
  • Monitor the used automobile market for trends in vehicle values.
  • Maintain customer relations with suppliers and auction personnel.
  • Meet with suppliers and attend auctions to buy cars that meet AutoSavvy requirements.
  • Safely move cars from customer drop-off to staging areas for transport.
  • Record and report key information including throughput, specific vehicles, volume rates, errors, top performers, bottom performers, and improvement plans.
  • Travel to out-of-market rebuilders is required from 50% - 75% of the time.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
