About The Position

Zurich Canada is seeking a Bilingual Automobile Senior Underwriter / Underwriter for their Montreal office. This role involves analyzing and underwriting new and renewal business, interacting with the market, and providing exceptional customer service. The position reports to the VP, Liability Manager, Eastern Region, and will manage a portfolio of medium to large complex commercial auto risks, with opportunities to further develop the automobile portfolio. The role requires leveraging a broker network and in-depth underwriting knowledge to grow the book of business, using The Zurich Way of Underwriting to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business within delegated authority levels. The role follows a hybrid work model, requiring three days per week in-person presence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  • OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
  • OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
  • OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Bilingual in French & English

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 or more years of experience with commercial lines auto underwriting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in: Medium to large sized, bulk rated fleet risks; Loss rated accounts; Heavy commercial US exposure and/or US plated

Responsibilities

  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities with key broker partners.
  • Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
  • Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
  • Make agent / broker / customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
  • Negotiate Terms & Conditions and close deals.
  • Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
  • Participate in Sales Team meeting as related to assigned brokers and / or territory.
  • Proactively engage in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.
  • Update required systems with details of broker / client visits and account status within specified time frame.
  • Serve as key contact for assigned target accounts.
  • Develop strong broker and client networks as related to industries underwritten by Business Unit.
  • Calculate Target Price accurately by utilizing underwriting tools appropriately.
  • Measure exposure / analyze risk.
  • Assist in training and developing staff.
  • Provide expertise on coverage issues with claims programs and guidelines.
  • Travel for business and work extended hours during peak periods, as required.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
