About The Position

The Automation Technician supports the operation, reliability, and continuous improvement of automated production equipment across the facility. This includes troubleshooting automation systems, PLC-based controls, robotics, vision systems, sensors, and motion devices. The technician ensures equipment uptime, supports engineering and production teams, trains operators on automation equipment, and contributes to process improvements. This role is hands-on, technical, and focused on maintaining high-speed automated manufacturing performance.

Requirements

  • Technical training or experience in industrial automation, mechatronics, robotics, or electro-mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of PLC architecture, sensors, and machine control systems.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and automation schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience supporting automated production systems.
  • Candidates must be 18 years old to work for Cartamundi.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMIs.
  • Familiarity with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet).
  • Knowledge of robotics (Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa) and vision systems.
  • Experience with Lean, TPM, or reliability-centered maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot automation equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control systems, and field devices.
  • Diagnose equipment faults through PLC interfaces, diagnostic screens, and system logs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on automation systems such as sensors, actuators, robotics, conveyors, servo systems, and vision inspection equipment.
  • Support integration, testing, and commissioning of new automated equipment or upgrades.
  • Assist engineering with improvements and optimization of automated sequences.
  • Perform routine maintenance on robotic cells and motion systems.
  • Troubleshoot robotic and servo motion faults and safety interlocks.
  • Maintain and support operation of vision-guided robotics and inspection systems.
  • Maintain and replace automation-related components such as photoeyes, limit switches, encoders, pneumatic actuators, and solenoid valves.
  • Utilize I/O monitoring tools to diagnose device or signal issues.
  • Train operators on automation equipment, including correct operation, safe use, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Coach operators to recognize abnormal equipment behavior.
  • Respond to downtime events and perform rapid troubleshooting of automated systems.
  • Document maintenance work and root-cause findings.
  • Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
  • Support Production in various departments by assisting with equipment issues and ensuring automated systems operate as intended.
  • Follow all site safety policies, LOTO procedures, and safeguarding requirements.
  • Identify and escalate risks involving automation controls, robotics, or safety circuits.
  • Participate in safety reviews and compliance audits.
