About The Position

The Automation Technician II will maintain all systems and subsystems of the automated material handling system. This role requires rapid equipment return to serviceability by performing thorough, in-depth troubleshooting on any non-functioning or faulted system, subsystem, or component. The technician will keep management informed of specific problems and suggested actions, including approximate time required for repairs. Responsibilities include removing and replacing controls components, reloading parameters for PLC product lines, and other like components such as server-based controls or industrial PCs. The role also involves troubleshooting and replacing field bus communication components on conveyor systems, including addressing components and running diagnostics. Additionally, the technician will remove and replace mechanical parts of the conveyor, such as repairing broken chains, belting, rollers, and drive motors, and realigning or replacing control system sensors (photo-eyes, proximity sensors, etc.). Diagnosing and replacing electronic sensors, including reprogramming and alignment, is also a key duty. The technician will perform Preventive Maintenance on multi-axis robotic arms and End Of Arm Tools, and be proficient with conveyor maintenance, including PM actions on automated conveyor equipment. Documentation of repairs, PMs, parts usage, and time using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) is required. The role is responsible for cleanup of equipment and removal of replaced parts from work areas after repairs are completed. The technician will also assist and train other automation team technicians in troubleshooting and repairs as required.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of 480, 277, and 120 volt electrical systems (single and three phase).
  • Experience with and working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller).
  • Experience welding with stick or MIG a plus
  • Site inspections, equipment inspections, mechanical repairs and replacements, all which require good mobility, physical exertion, walking, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, carrying tools and parts, etc.
  • Experience with MS Office programs: Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently of supervisor following procedures and manuals.
  • Hold an Associates Degree for Electro-Mechanical studies or 3-5 years equivalent experience in electro-mechanical field.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical or electronic schematics, mechanical diagrams and Illustrated Parts Breakdowns for troubleshooting and repairs, while understanding complex automated system drawings and component specification sheets.
  • Possess sufficient Electrical or Mechanical aptitude to replace electrical and mechanical components of Symbotic Rovers (BOTS) and perform preventive maintenance.

  • Document repairs, PMs, parts usage, and time by completing work orders in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Responsible for cleanup of equipment and removal of replaced parts from work areas after repairs are completed.
  • Assist and train other automation team technicians in troubleshooting and repairs of any equipment as required, consistent with level of experience and training.
