Automation Software Engineer II - LabVIEW/TestStand
About The Position
Medtronic is seeking an Automation Software Engineer II to join the Software Automation team supporting Manufacturing Operations at their Tempe Campus. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a strong understanding of current manufacturing automation software, excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, and strong communication abilities. This role involves technical ownership and leadership for traceability workflow applications, stabilizing critical manufacturing acceptance systems, and leading the transition from legacy tools to next-generation, enterprise-aligned solutions. The position aims to ensure stable ownership of critical software, reduce operational risk and downtime, and enable scalable, enterprise-aligned digital manufacturing solutions.
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 2 years of relevant Software Engineering experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 0 years relevant experience in Software Engineering.
- Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment (unless the role is Principal-level or above).
Nice To Haves
- Proficiency in National Instruments LabView and TestStand is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of the full Software Development Life Cycle (requirements, design, testing, release).
- Experience with multiple modern and legacy Windows Operating Systems.
- Proven ability to support production systems in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industries.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing traceability systems.
Responsibilities
- Serve as technical owner for software automation supporting manufacturing acceptance test and visual inspection stations.
- Provide expert-level support for production-critical issues.
- Lead application enhancements, migrations, and modernization efforts driven by user needs, instrumentation and infrastructure changes.
- Partner with business stakeholders to perform automation application updates, manage technical risk, and coordinate releases.
- Establish and maintain required SDLC documentation, testing, and release.
