About The Position

Medtronic is seeking an Automation Software Engineer II to join the Software Automation team at the Tempe Campus (MTC) to support Manufacturing Operations. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with a strong understanding of current manufacturing automation software, excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, and strong communication abilities. This role involves providing technical ownership and leadership for traceability workflow applications, stabilizing critical manufacturing acceptance systems, and leading the transition from legacy tools to next-generation, enterprise-aligned solutions. The position aims to ensure stable ownership of critical software, reduce operational risk and downtime, and enable scalable, enterprise-aligned digital manufacturing solutions.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 2 years of relevant Software Engineering experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 0 years relevant experience in Software Engineering.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in National Instruments LabView and TestStand is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the full Software Development Life Cycle (requirements, design, testing, release).
  • Experience with multiple modern and legacy Windows Operating Systems.
  • Proven ability to support production systems in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing or other regulated industries.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing traceability systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical owner for software automation supporting manufacturing acceptance test and visual inspection stations.
  • Provide expert-level support for production-critical issues.
  • Lead application enhancements, migrations, and modernization efforts driven by user needs, instrumentation and infrastructure changes.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to perform automation application updates, manage technical risk, and coordinate releases.
  • Establish and maintain required SDLC documentation, testing, and release.
