HellermannTyton North AmericaMilwaukee, WI
Onsite

About The Position

Under the direction of the Production Shift Supervisor, the Automation Setup Technician is responsible for setting up automation in production cells, performing simple troubleshooting, and doing basic preventive maintenance. Daily duties include maintaining and setting up robots and robotic EOAT's, installing programs into vision systems, setting up automation, setting up bagging and pack-out equipment, and adjusting the associated sensors/controls for production readiness. The role executes changeovers (automation/robots/EOAT's/cameras, etc.), performs preventive maintenance, and collaborates with Process Engineering, QA, and Production to ensure stable handoffs, accurate counts, and uptime across shifts. This will be achieved while maintaining HellermannTyton Quality and EHS certifications by supporting all corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.

  • High school diploma or equivalency, required.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Robotics troubleshooting and HMI navigation (EOAT, grippers, sensors, timers).
  • Vision system setup/calibration (Sigmax/Keyence, etc.) and image tuning for accurate counts.
  • Mechanical aptitude for precision adjustments at mold/EOAT interface.
  • Bagging/pack-out system knowledge (seal heads, clamp sensors, accumulator conveyors, scales).
  • Changeover readiness: camera reimage, cavity count updates, dipswitch and EINS controller inputs, recipe verification.
  • Clear written/verbal communication for cross‑functional collaboration and shift handoffs.
  • Problem‑Solving & Root Cause Analysis to isolate faults and define countermeasures quickly.
  • Collaborates with PE/QA/Production to synchronize timing, recipes, and vision settings.
  • Proposes hardware/program tweaks (e.g., stroke limiters, sensor placement) that improve up time.
  • Software familiarity: Robotics HMI, PLC interfaces, Sigmax/Keyence, Microsoft 365 for documentation.
  • Prior hands‑on automation maintenance/robotics troubleshooting in manufacturing.

Nice To Haves

  • Robotics programming certification
  • Vision system training certification
  • PLC fundamentals certification

Responsibilities

  • Set up automation, robots, EOAT’s, cameras, etc. for setups, changeovers, and rehangs and verify production readiness when complete.
  • Diagnose and correct EOAT alignment issues, gripper damage, dip switch settings, and sensor faults (LS4/LS4T, vacuum confirmation, part‑present, runner confirmation, etc.).
  • Adjust robot programs, timers, speeds, and positions to ensure proper pick and drop handoffs and cycle integrity for setups, changeovers and rehangs.
  • Maintain and calibrate vision systems (Sigmax, Keyence, etc.): re-image cameras, clean/adjust lenses and backlights, tune brightness/thresholds.
  • Troubleshoot bagging and pack-out equipment: seal heads, clamps, conveyors, printers/labels (Bartender), and scales.
  • Configure bowl feeders and insert handling (vibration, sensor positions) to prevent over stacking and misfeeds.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and document activities.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering on ejector timing/speeds and nip locations.
  • Document interventions, update programs, and communicate handoffs across shifts.
  • Maintain housekeeping and 5s standards.
