About The Position

The Automation Maintenance Technician will repair and calibrate Symbotic’s automated and robotic systems, including Automated Adapters, Vertical Lifts, and automated robotic vehicles. This role requires becoming an expert in Symbotic’s automation systems, covering all mechanical, PLC, electrical, and electronic subsystems. Responsibilities also include system upkeep and operation of automated adapters for interfacing with the Symbotic structure. The Automation Maintenance Technician is part of the Customer Operations organization, which manages the daily operations of Symbotic’s robotic material handling system, focusing on operational excellence, quality, safety, and system performance in partnership with onsite customers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience/certification in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing or equivalent field preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience with mechanical automation systems or educational/training equivalent.
  • Strong electro-mechanical skills.
  • Ability to maintain required productivity/work expectations.
  • Ability to work independently following procedures and manuals.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform multiple job functions simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates commitment and ability to work safely.
  • Reliable and maintains satisfactory attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily compliance with safety commitments, including OSHA, Symbotic, and customer processes and procedures.
  • Perform inspections on systems related to Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) of automated robotic vehicles and Automated Adapters/Lifts.
  • Adjust, calibrate, repair, replace, or modify system components to support continuous operation.
  • Process and monitor the flow of the ASRS through adapters, including manual inbound, automatic inbound, and automatic outbound, to maximize throughput and cases per hour.
  • Troubleshoot automated robotic vehicle anomalies and stoppages using schematic and wiring diagrams, and advanced test equipment.
  • Perform PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) troubleshooting.
  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting skills and ability to follow electro-mechanical diagrams.
  • Conduct periodic system inspections within expected durations on all equipment and thoroughly document all actions and repairs, including parts used and labor.
  • Ensure quality maintenance and complete documentation via the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Communicate production-impacting problems and suggested actions, including estimated time for corrective and emergency maintenance, to required team members.
  • Operate and run automated systems.
  • Work in a dynamic environment and adapt to immediate business needs.
  • Clean equipment and remove replaced parts from work areas after repairs.
  • Perform automated robotic vehicle recovery in the Symbotic Matrix select system, including working in restrictive environments.
  • Perform minor utility work such as machining holes, brackets; cutting steel; aligning sensors; attaching Unistrut; etc.
  • Troubleshoot, calibrate, set up, and perform tool changes on robotic arms.
  • Perform continuous cleaning and adhere to 5S policies.
  • Perform Cell Operator functions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership.
