Automation & Integration Engineer

Abode Energy Management•Burlington, MA
•$100,000 - $120,000•Remote

About The Position

Abode Energy Management is hiring an Automation & Integration Engineer to own its automation platform as the company standardizes on n8n. The role involves designing new workflows, modernizing existing automations, and keeping them reliable and well documented. These automations support utility and government energy programs across New England and connect tools such as Calendly, JotForm, SharePoint, Airtable, and Salesforce. The team is also adding AI steps built on Claude to reduce program staff’s manual data-entry workload. The position reports to the Senior Director of Product and works closely with the Salesforce administrator and program teams. It is a remote position, ideally based in New England, with most work performed from the employee’s home and some travel as needed to Abode’s Burlington office or to events and meetings. This is a full-time, exempt position with a flexible schedule.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience building production automations or integrations between SaaS systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and OAuth 2.0.
  • Scripting experience in JavaScript or Python, such as in n8n Code nodes or custom API calls.
  • API integration experience with Salesforce or Microsoft Graph/SharePoint.
  • Good habits in error handling, logging, and written documentation.
  • Ability to work directly with non-technical program staff and explain technical work clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Production experience with n8n; deep experience with a comparable platform such as Make, Zapier, Power Automate, or Workato will also be considered.
  • Experience building LLM steps into workflows, ideally with Claude or the Anthropic API.
  • Experience with both Salesforce and Microsoft Graph, plus JotForm, Calendly, or Airtable.
  • Experience moving workflows between platforms, such as from Power Automate or Zapier to n8n.
  • SQL or BigQuery experience.
  • Interest in clean energy, energy efficiency, or utility programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain n8n workflows for program intake, scheduling, surveys, contractor enrollment, quality assurance, and reporting.
  • Modernize existing automations on n8n, consolidating them where appropriate and providing test plans and rollback steps.
  • Integrate Salesforce, JotForm, SharePoint and OneDrive through Microsoft Graph, Airtable, and Calendly using REST APIs, webhooks, and OAuth.
  • Build AI-assisted workflow steps with Claude, including document extraction, classification, and summarization; use structured outputs, validate results, route low-confidence results for human review, and track usage costs.
  • Set and follow standards for error handling, retries, scheduling, logging, and alerting, and resolve break-fix issues.
  • Own Abode’s automations and maintain documentation and runbooks that enable teammates to provide backup coverage.
  • Gather requirements from program staff and turn them into workflows that are simple to maintain.
  • Manage credentials, service accounts, and access scopes securely in accordance with Abode’s data security and AI use policies.
  • Support data flows into the reporting stack, including BigQuery and Sigma, as needed.
  • Identify new automation opportunities and help prioritize them with the technology team.
