About The Position

An Automation Engineering Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operation of all automation equipment in manufacturing. An Engineering Technician’s primary responsibility is to ensure all automation equipment used in production is both maintained and calibrated. This person is responsible for monitoring equipment to understand equipment issues as they relate to overall equipment efficiency and product quality for improvement. Additionally, an engineering technician is in the unique position to step in and support production directly if needed.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or higher in technical field (science, engineering), a certification in Maintenance or Mechanical Processing from an accredited Technical institute, or four years’ experience in manufacturing/production environment (medical, device, pharmaceuticals, regulated food, pilot plant or similar type industry).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical staff to ensure understanding.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate in problem solving.
  • Software use and knowledge: Windows, MS Office products, SolidWorks (or similar).
  • Self-starter and self-directed individual, focused on tasks at hand; ability to organize, prioritize, and execute tasks to efficiently move projects forward.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Ability to deal and resolve problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Highly organized and able to balance multiple demands and priorities.
  • Excellent electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a regulated environment (FDA, ISO, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience in the medical device field, specifically invitro diagnostics, preferred.
  • Knowledge of NetSuite, Grand Avenue, or other automated ERP systems, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and breakdown automated equipment.
  • Perform calibration and preventative maintenance on all automated equipment.
  • Directly support production on automated equipment. This may require directing of production staff on equipment requiring multiple associates to operate.
  • Create necessary documentation for all work performed and communicate as required.
  • Maintenance of spare parts inventory for automated equipment.
  • Ensure work is performed in a compliant manner and consistent with business policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and trouble-shoot mechanical assembly processes.
  • Support microarray/fluid printing processes.
  • Provide documentation of assembly and testing methods.
  • Monitoring of equipment for continuous improvement. Ex. Observing pellet insertion stations during operation to understand failure mode of pellet insertion.
  • Participates in cross-training and cross-functional activities in the manufacturing area.
  • Work with engineering team to develop and implement equipment modifications.
  • Create, review and follow Workflow, Work Instruction (WI), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) documents within the operations area.
  • Follow all safety rules and protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
