About The Position

Corning Optical Communications LLC seeks an Automation Engineering Technical Lead to work in Hickory, NC. This role involves maintaining and executing the automation controls strategy within a discrete manufacturing environment. The position requires providing electrical and controls engineering expertise to support new fiber optic automation equipment, continuous improvements, cost reductions, and maintenance. The individual will participate in and direct all phases of projects, from design to technology transfers, and develop control architecture and system integration requirements for manufacturing environments. The role requires 20% international (Mexico, Poland) and domestic travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s in mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related.
• 5 years of experience using Beckoff, Omron, AB, or Siemens PLC automation platforms to design & support electrical/control systems for automated fiber optic component assembly in a discrete manufacturing environment.
• 5 years of experience leading continuous improvement & cost reduction initiatives for custom automated equipment in a discrete manufacturing environment.
• 2 years of experience performing data analytics using Python to develop, deliver, & improve fiber optic automation.
• 1 year of experience with large scale project management & innovation in fiber optic automation space.
