About The Position

The Automation Engineer reports to the Operational Technology (OT) Manager and acts as a technical expert for the site's industrial automation systems. The incumbent is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing automation systems to ensure the reliability, compliance, safety, and performance of manufacturing operations. They will collaborate closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Validation, and Maintenance teams to support operational activities, capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, and continuous improvement initiatives in a regulated environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automated Production Engineering, Control Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in industrial automation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in programming and configuring PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of Siemens, WinCC, iFIX, Wonderware, Historian systems, or similar technologies.
  • Experience in troubleshooting automated equipment and resolving technical issues.
  • Experience in a regulated environment (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical, or other regulated industry) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of GMP requirements, 21 CFR Part 11 regulations, and computerized system validation (CSV) is a significant asset.
  • Experience in managing or executing engineering and CAPEX projects.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in French and good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level technical support for production automation systems to maximize equipment availability and performance.
  • Program, configure, and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), SCADA systems, and other industrial automation platforms.
  • Troubleshoot automated equipment and lead root cause analyses (RCCA) as well as the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support automation computerized systems, including backups, performance monitoring, access management, and system maintenance.
  • Provide technical support for automated control platforms and process information systems, including historical databases (Historians).
  • Ensure the compliance and availability of automation systems throughout their lifecycle.
  • Design and develop automation solutions for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
  • Actively participate in modernization, expansion, and capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects related to automation systems and operational technologies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure technical solutions align with operational needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement best practices for reliability, scalability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Identify and implement process optimization and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure new systems introduced into production meet compliance requirements and site operational needs.
  • Write and manage change controls related to automation systems.
  • Execute and support computerized system validation (CSV) activities.
  • Participate in investigations related to deviations, non-conformities, and technical issues affecting automated systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), applicable regulations, and Galderma standards.
  • Support internal, external, and regulatory audits as a technical expert in automation.
  • Ensure adherence to the company's health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Validation, Engineering, and Information Technology teams.
  • Coordinate activities with external suppliers, integrators, and partners specializing in automation.
  • Represent the Automation function in capital expenditure projects and strategic site initiatives.
  • Act as the technical point of contact with suppliers of automation systems and operational technologies.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
