About The Position

The Automation Engineer, DSM Upstream, will provide support to the Drug Substance Manufacturing (DSM) facility using DeltaV. This includes implementing changes to the Automation systems, updating design documents, executing tests, troubleshooting events, and providing automation on-call support. This role focuses on supporting the delivery of DeltaV logic for Upstream process areas, including Inoculum Lab, Media Preparation, Seed Culture, Large Scale Bioreactors, and Harvest. Requirements

  • Automation Engineer 1: High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field with no prior experience
  • Automation Engineer 2: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
  • 2 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience
  • DeltaV automation experience is required
  • Automation Engineer 3: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
  • 5 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience
  • DeltaV automation experience is required
  • Automation Senior Engineer 1: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
  • 8 years of Automation, Instrumentation & Controls, or other relevant technical experience
  • DeltaV automation experience is required
  • Effective communication, both written and oral
  • Basic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to present information to others
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Automation subject areas

Nice To Haves

  • Automation Engineer 1: 1+ year of Automation experience
  • Automation Engineer 2: Preferred: 3+ year of Automation experience
  • Automation Engineer 3: Preferred: 6+ year of Automation experience
  • Automation Senior Engineer 1: Preferred Master’s degree in technical field of study relevant to Automation or Instrumentation & Controls with 6+ years of Automation experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform Automation activities, such as code configuration, document development, and test execution using DeltaV
  • Delivers accurate and on-time Automation work
  • Creates standard code utilizing simple control strategies
  • Assists with developing (generating, reviewing, maintaining) various specification documents (e.g., user requirements specification (URS), functional specification (FS), design qualification (DQ), etc.)
  • Assists with developing (generating, reviewing, maintaining) various test protocols and functional testing documents (e.g., installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), etc.)
  • Assists with developing various test protocols and executes functional testing for documents
  • Serves as on-call support for Automation inquiries and troubleshooting
  • Collaborates with other departments, such as Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Validation
  • Other duties, as assigned
