We are seeking an Automation Engineer to support the design and implementation of automation and electrical systems for upstream oil and gas facilities. This role will focus on PLC programming, Cause & Effect (C&E) development, control panel design, and automation/electrical design for field facilities such as well pads, tank batteries, SWDs, and compressor stations. This new position will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of automation experience in upstream oil & gas facilities.
  • Proven ability in PLC programming and industrial control system development.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation, electrical design, and control panel layouts.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control system documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, IDEC, and ABB PLC platforms.
  • Familiarity with Fisher ROC units and Totalflow flow computers.
  • Strong knowledge of the various I&E devices commonly used in upstream oil and gas operations.
  • Experience with SCADA systems deployed in upstream environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, and maintain PLC control systems for upstream production facilities.
  • Produce comprehensive Cause & Effect (C&E) matrices, implementing control logic based on P&IDs and control narratives.
  • Design and specify control panels, including PLC panels, I/O panels, and communication panels.
  • Prepare detailed automation and electrical design documentation, such as I/O lists, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules.
  • Support facility engineering efforts, including site layout, cable routing, and automation infrastructure planning.
  • Provide commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup support for new and existing facilities.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and field personnel to ensure robust and reliable automation solutions.
