About The Position

NSBC - Level II Automation Engineer responsible for providing 24/7 on-call support for Level 2 computer network systems in a steel mill environment. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading mission-critical production software. The engineer will engineer and develop event-driven tracking services, optimize mill performance, and implement/maintain software interface tools, databases, and supervisory control systems. Key responsibilities include designing and developing real-time analytics and reporting platforms, modernizing legacy HMI clients, integrating hardware, and enabling real-time data updates. The position requires applying concepts in programming web application servers and enterprise web development, focusing on server-side programming and complex, n-tier systems. The role also involves collecting and analyzing production data, using Java and other programming languages (FORTRAN, C#, C++) for automation solutions, and troubleshooting software issues. Implementation of solutions for performance and scalability, including distributed caching, high-performance communication, and load balancing, is expected. The engineer will work with requirements, design, programming, testing, and problem-solving to modify existing Level II models or add new functionality. Maintaining and updating mill-wide Level II production systems, tracking materials for inventory/reporting, and automating the CI/CD pipeline are also key duties. The role includes administering, maintaining, and growing production maintenance software, infrastructure, and network hardware, as well as administering, maintaining, and upgrading Oracle and SQL Server databases. Maintaining and upgrading servers supporting Level II systems in the Beam Mill and Casters is also required.
