About The Position

This role focuses on research and development in automation engineering, staying at the forefront of manufacturing technologies. The engineer will work with new technologies to understand their capabilities for future deployment, collaborate with the advanced manufacturing engineering team, and develop robotic solutions, vision systems, and sensing technology. Responsibilities include collaborating with vendors and the internal automation lab, trialing new technology, and exploring the use of manufacturing data for Industry 4.0 applications. The role also involves advanced engineering tasks such as leading the creation of Statements of Requirements (SORs) for equipment, leading the design and implementation of future factory equipment and technology, and managing projects for new technology improvements in stamping, welding, and fabrication departments. The engineer will also lead projects with maintenance, quality, and resident manufacturing engineers and prepare the business for the implementation and sustainability of future factory equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Stays on the forefront of the latest manufacturing technologies - both turnkey and custom
  • Works with newly acquired technology to understand capability for future deployment
  • Collaborates and shares with advanced manufacturing engineering team
  • Develops robotic solutions, visions systems, and sensing technology for manufacturing processes
  • Collaborates with outside vendors and internal automation lab on work packages
  • Trials new technology in the automation lab for future use and understanding
  • Trials ways to leverage manufacturing data towards 14.0 applications
  • May lead the creation of SOR's for selected Future Factory equipment and/or Mfg. Cells
  • May lead in design, creation, and implementation of Future Factory equipment and technology
  • May lead project management in new technology improvements into the stamping, welding, and fabrication departments
  • May lead projects around maintenance, quality, and other resident manufacturing engineers on assigned work packages
  • Prepares all areas of the business for the implementation and sustainability of Future Factory equipment
