About The Position

The Automation Engineer will lead the project management process, including equipment planning, design, development, testing, and rate verification to support new product releases and enhancements. This role involves communicating feedback and results to stakeholders, managing capital equipment and tooling procurement within budget, and directing vendors to meet company standards. The engineer will develop and maintain timelines, perform tolerance stack-ups, and ensure products meet all engineering, customer, and manufacturing specifications. They will provide technical support for product launches, stay updated on new technologies, and assist in engineering and manufacturing feasibility studies and quote preparations. Collaboration with Process Engineers and department managers is key for planning and implementing process improvements. The role also includes procuring and sourcing tooling and equipment, ensuring compliance with specifications, and maximizing company profitability while maintaining confidentiality. Compliance with OSHA regulations and accountability for health and safety responsibilities are also required. The individual must work independently, represent the company professionally to customers, own projects, and coordinate effectively with others. Other duties may be assigned by the Assistant General Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, tool and die design or industrial engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Ten years’ experience in engineering and automation.
  • Excellent problem solving techniques.
  • Some travel as required by company or customer.
  • Training in SPC, FMEA, DOE, PFMEA, DDI, GD&T, APQP.
  • Computer skills in the areas of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.

Nice To Haves

  • Having some tooling experience is a plus.
  • Additionally, experience in a manufacturing facility especially automotive background is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the project management process inclusive of equipment planning, design, development and testing, and rate verification to support release of new products and product enhancements.
  • Communicates feedback/results to appropriate stakeholders within the organization at appropriate project milestones.
  • Feasibility study, estimate, quote, evaluate, specify and purchase capital equipment and tooling for new programs or modifications to existing programs to budget.
  • Interact and direct vendors to provide equipment and tooling to our standards and performance expectations.
  • Ability to develop time lines and maintain through follow up.
  • Understand and perform tolerance stack ups.
  • Ensure that the product is being manufactured to all engineering/customer and manufacturing specifications.
  • Be involved and provide technical support on all product launches both within the company.
  • Investigate and keep abreast of new state of the art technologies which may enhance the profitability of the company.
  • Assist in engineering and manufacturing feasibility studies.
  • Assist in preparation of quotes.
  • Establish program timing parameters and ensure schedules are maintained.
  • Analyze and assist in tooling and manufacturing process.
  • Work with Process Engineers and related department managers/supervisors to plan and implement new or revised process flows for improving plant layout and efficiencies.
  • Assist in the procuring and sourcing of tooling and equipment for new programs.
  • Ensure said tooling/equipment complies with the companies and customer’s specifications, standards and expectations.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of the company and its business.
  • Will work in compliance with all legislative requirements of OSHA and will be accountable for specific health and safety responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work independently, must present an image to customer of total company commitment, maintain ownership of projects and work effectively with others to Co-ordinate all aspects of the job.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Assistant General Manager.
