About The Position

Flex is seeking an Automation Engineer in Austin, TX, to support production and troubleshoot activities on fully automated assembly lines for manufacturing. This role involves developing, implementing, and supporting automation equipment, including Co-bots, SCARA, gantry, gripper, torque drivers, dispensers, conveyors, and vision systems. The engineer will program factory automation equipment, troubleshoot errors, develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment, create documentation, and work with vendors to ensure equipment readiness. The role also includes communicating with various teams, deploying systems at customer facilities, and performing service work, with up to 15% travel within the US.

Requirements

• BS (and/or MS) Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 3+ years of relevant work experience.
• Robotics programming, at least one of these UR/Fanuc/Omron/Yamaha/Epson
• Experience with pneumatics, sensors or conveyors.
• Integration experience with custom automation or turn-key solutions
• Experience with vision systems, HMIs, and AMRs.
• Ability to use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software program to create schematics or drawings.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teams verbally, in writing, and via presentations.
• Ability to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and support automation equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Support automation cells and equipment including Co-bot, SCARA, gantry, gripper, torque driver, dispenser, conveyor, vision system and custom devices.
• Program factory automation equipment (robots, machine vision, servos, pneumatics, etc.).
• Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment when errors occur.
• Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components.
• Create documentation for equipment or automation processes.
• Work with vendors and plant maintenance to ensure all automation equipment has appropriate spare parts, and a robust Preventive Maintenance plan.
• Perform the work listed in the standard operating procedures as well as work assigned by upper management.
• Communicate and interface with engineers, designers, and operations managers.
• Deploy systems at customer facilities and perform service work.
