About The Position

This role involves writing, testing, and documenting technical work products, including code and scripts, according to organizational standards. The engineer will focus on improving the quality and craftsmanship of products and systems, conducting root cause analysis for domain-level problems, and prescribing mitigation actions. The position requires designing self-contained systems within a team's domain and leading the implementation of significant capabilities in existing systems. Additionally, the role includes coaching team members on techniques to enhance reliability, resiliency, security, and performance, and decomposing complex designs into manageable implementations for less experienced engineers. The engineer will also anticipate trouble areas, guide teams in instrumentation practices for observability and supportability, and define test suites and instrumentation to meet latency and availability targets. A key aspect of the role is leading by example in closing open vulnerabilities, evaluating potential attack surfaces, and guiding teams in mitigation best practices. The engineer will also lead teams in identifying small batches of work for rapid delivery of high value, ensuring reusability is a primary consideration, and mentoring teammates. Observing the environment and identifying opportunities for new approaches is also expected.

Requirements

HashiCorp Vault/ AWS Secrets Management/ Azure Key Vault experience
5 to 7 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications (front-end and back-end development)
5+ years with Python and proficiency with FastAPI
5+ years with Restful web services

Nice To Haves

5+ years with React, TypeScript, JavaScript
Proficiency in object-oriented design techniques and principles
3+ years with Terraform and Vault
3+ years of professional, design, and open-source experience
3+ years with git and GitHub
3+ years of working in Windows and Linux operating systems (cloud, midrange, distributed), including shell scripting
Proficient w/ database and persistence frameworks: PostgreSQL, Object/Relational Mapping, Query performance tuning
Proficient with Cloud platform such as Azure

Decomposes intricate and interconnected designs into implementations that can be effectively built and maintained by less experienced engineers
Anticipates trouble areas in systems under development and guides the team in instrumentation practices to ensure observability and supportability
Defines test suites and instrumentation that ensures targets for latency and availability are being consistently met in production
Leads through example by prioritizing the closure of open vulnerabilities
Evaluates potential attack surfaces in systems under development, identifies best practices to mitigate, and guides teams in their implementation
Leads team in the identification of small batches of work to delivery the highest value quickly
Ensures reuse is a first class consideration in all team implementations and is a passionate advocate for broad reusability
Formally mentors teammates and helps guide them to and along needed learning journeys
Observes their environment and identifies opportunities for introducing new approaches to problems
