About The Position

In your role as Weekend Controls Engineer, you will provide on-site automation and controls engineering support for weekend production, acting as the escalation point for complex issues beyond automation technician scope and completing improvement work when equipment availability is highest. This is a weekend schedule (Friday–Sunday), 3 x 12-hour days (36 hours scheduled).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation Engineering, Software Engineering, or other Engineering discipline OR High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years directly relevant experience.
  • Strong background with Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell platforms (e.g., Logix family, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk components).
  • Experience supporting large equipment fleets and escalation-based manufacturing support.
  • Demonstrated hands-on controls/automation experience supporting manufacturing equipment in a high-uptime environment.
  • Independently troubleshoot PLC-controlled machinery by navigating existing programs and systems.
  • Work safely and effectively in hazardous/classified areas following applicable procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Ignition SCADA (development or troubleshooting) and/or integrating Ignition with PLC systems.
  • Experience with Beckhoff/TwinCAT systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial networks and OT troubleshooting (e.g., Ethernet/IP and related plant communications).
  • Experience working under formal change control and documentation practices in regulated or quality-driven manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the controls escalation resource for weekend production to restore equipment safely and reduce repeat downtime.
  • Troubleshoot PLC/HMI/SCADA, drives/motion, instrumentation, safety devices, and industrial communications.
  • Read and interpret existing PLC programs to diagnose issues beyond technician level; implement corrective actions and document outcomes.
  • Make code or configuration changes when necessary (expected to be rare) and follow established change control and documentation requirements.
  • Execute weekend improvement work and small-to-medium projects (e.g., recurring downtime countermeasures, alarm cleanup, minor sequence improvements, obsolescence mitigation, component replacement, standardization).
  • Provide operational support for Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley systems (majority of site equipment) and support Ignition SCADA and Beckhoff PLC equipment as applicable.
  • Work in hazardous/classified areas where ignition source control requirements apply, following site isolation practices and procedures.
  • Provide clear handoffs and “weekend learnings” to weekday engineering/maintenance teams.
