About The Position

The Automation Engineer I will become an equipment and product expert in designated departments. This role supports mechanical/electrical technicians and process engineers with advanced problem-solving, and partners with departmental production teams to identify and implement safety, quality, and productivity improvement ideas. The engineer will support and drive Plant/Departmental goals, mentor, evaluate, and develop plant technical resources. Responsibilities include designing and managing the implementation of capital projects, which may encompass controls, electrical power, and mechanical aspects. The role also involves maintaining and enforcing corporate electrical standards and code requirements, assisting with local oversight and long-term ownership of corporately managed projects, and ensuring the supportability of all automation solutions through management of drawings, documentation, procedures, source code, spare parts, obsolescence awareness, and third-party support availability. Collaboration with other Shaw Automation Engineers to share knowledge and leverage resources is also a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any Engineering field with at least 1+years of Automation Experience
  • Experience with the design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of PLC’s, Allen Bradley, Siemens; PC Hardware/Software; HMI interfaces and other controls related systems and equipment.
  • Understand the operation of and be able to troubleshoot AC/DC/Servo Motors and have a moderate to advanced understanding of single and three-phase power and power distribution
  • Able to write moderate to advanced software applications for accessing and manipulating data from central data storage and process/logic controllers.
  • Familiar with network theory and able to troubleshoot all industrial networking protocols.
  • Must have a moderate to advanced understanding of machine safety and safety systems including guarding, safety categories, and performance levels.
  • Must be available to work weekends, Holidays and off shifts as needed.

  • Design and manage the implementation of capital projects. May not only include the controls portion of the project but the electrical power, and mechanical portion as well.
  • Maintain and enforce corporate electrical standards and code requirements.
  • Assist with local oversight and long-term ownership of corporately managed projects.
  • Ensure supportability of all automation solutions. This includes management of drawings, documentation, procedures, source code, spare parts, obsolescence awareness, and availability of third-party support.
  • Work with CIM and other Shaw Automation Engineers to share knowledge and leverage resources.
