About The Position

The Automation Electrical Engineer at Applied Medical plays a central role in the design, development, and documentation of electrical control systems that power automated manufacturing equipment. This position works within a cross-functional engineering team to build reliable, compliant control systems from concept through production support. The Automation Electrical Engineer contributes to the full lifecycle of automation equipment, from electrical schematic design and panel layout through implementation and on-floor troubleshooting. Professionals with backgrounds in controls engineering, electrical engineering, or industrial automation engineering will find this role well-aligned with their experience.

Requirements

  • Experience designing electrical control systems for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring designs, and selecting electrical components
  • Familiarity with electrical standards and best practices for industrial equipment, including NEMA, NEC, NFPA 79, IEEE, and UL
  • Proficiency in electrical computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar tools
  • Understanding of sensors, actuators, motion systems, and electrical components used in automated equipment
  • Understanding of electrical assembly and wiring
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and safety performance levels
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a team-oriented engineering environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems and schematics
  • Proficiency in three-dimensional CAD software such as SolidWorks
  • Experience supporting automated equipment in a regulated or medical device manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with safety systems and functional safety standards

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems for automated manufacturing equipment, including component selection, wiring design, and panel layout.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics and panel drawings that meet applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Generate and maintain complete electrical documentation packages, including schematics, panel drawings, bills of materials, and wire lists.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical standards, including National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association 79 (NFPA 79), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into final engineering deliverables.
  • Collaborate with controls and design engineers to develop effective solutions, select appropriate components, and contribute to control system research and development.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and support build, debug and troubleshooting efforts for automated equipment.
