About The Position

Diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems associated with all equipment in a manufacturing environment. Troubleshoots and maintains existing electrical and control systems of existing equipment. Uses basic hand and specialty tools for repair equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Previous related experience with PLC controls and logic circuits is mandatory
  • High degree of knowledge of equipment and aptitude for understanding mechanical systems through formal training and/or education
  • Be able to perform repairs (including electrical)
  • Trained in lock out/tag out procedure
  • Understanding of pneumatic, hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes, belts and pulleys, chains and sprockets
  • Must possess or immediately purchase the required tools for this position
  • Must be experienced in the following areas: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Servo Systems, Direct Current Drives, Alternating Current Drives, Human Machine Interface Controls, Industrial motion controls, Pick and Place Automation
  • Must be able to read, write & understand basic English
  • Must take & pass (within allowable limits) a mechanical & electrical aptitude test

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints & wiring diagrams for the installation & repair of equipment and the facility
  • Analyzes and resolves electrical problems
  • Troubleshoots analog/digital electronic control systems, PLC programming, HMI systems and computer network communications
  • Assists in directing plant electricians and mechanics as needed to complete repairs
  • Documents and implements work order procedure for new equipment/technology and the complete documentation of all system modifications
  • Installs and maintains Process Control Instruments, both pneumatic and electronic
  • Repairs, calibrates and cleans all instruments, pressure switches, to insure minimal downtime and efficient utilization of pneumatic and electronic equipment
  • Debugs and modifies programs to make them operational
  • Performs major electrical repairs including 3-phase, 440 & PLC, new installations of equipment, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances
  • Uses precision measuring tools/devices, hand tools and testing instruments
  • Inspects and test electrical equipment, lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits
  • Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using testing instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, testing lamp, or growler
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out
  • Ensures electrical work maintains the integrity of OEM requirements
  • Inspects completed repairs
  • Requisitions new parts and equipment
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area throughout the shift
  • Creates new tools to support production management
  • Realizes new project work as per production department
