About The Position

Unilever Jefferson City is hiring an Automation & Controls Specialist to work directly with Packaging and Process departments to deliver automation solutions for the facility. The role requires autonomous leadership, clear direction to the team, data-based decision-making, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.

The specialist will support automation improvements, equipment reliability, continuous improvement, and engineering solutions across the facility. The position is based in Jefferson City, Missouri, and is scheduled Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with flexibility to support factory shutdowns, training, emergency coverage, and teams on varying shifts.

Pay is $37.57 per hour plus a $6.76-per-hour shift differential, paid weekly. Unilever describes its Jefferson City operation as providing personal care brands while working to minimize environmental footprints and promote employee growth.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Graduate of a two-year post-secondary program in Industrial Electricity, or successful completion of a formal apprenticeship program, or three years of directly related mechanical experience as a substitute for the post-secondary education.
• Flexibility within the shift-work pattern to accommodate factory shutdowns, training courses, and emergency coverage.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams to ensure Autonomous/Prevent Maintenance is completed.
• Flexible work schedule to support teams on varying shifts.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to understand and apply National Electric Code (NEC) requirements.

Responsibilities

• Attend daily and weekly meetings to identify and understand facility automation needs.
• Work cross-functionally with other departments.
• Improve existing automation and deliver new low-cost automation within departments.
• Understand and eliminate the leading daily automation losses.
• Participate in developing and delivering a strategic improvement plan to achieve OEE targets.
• Review breakdown Root Cause Analysis (EWO) actions and ensure completion.
• Understand and teach the team the theory of operation for all equipment.
• Access server-based applications, including RSBatch, RSView SE, FactoryTalk History, FactoryTalk VantagePoint, and FactoryTalk Metrics.
• Perform advanced PLC ladder logic programming, including PID loop control and sequencers.
• Identify continuous-improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
• Support planning and execution of automation trials and engineering solutions for the facility.
• Read and understand electrical documents, including schematics, one-line diagrams, plan drawings, and instrument installation and configuration details.
• Understand basic PLC ladder logic and make simple relay-logic PLC program changes.
• Maintain and configure PLC hardware.
• Implement automation solutions within PLC code.
• Maintain and configure variable-frequency drives (VFDs) and DC drives.
• Maintain and configure servo motors.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
