The Automation Controls Software Engineer III is responsible for providing controls programming, debug, and site-installation of turnkey custom automation equipment. This role involves working independently on larger or high complexity projects and/or multiple smaller projects, with occasional training of new and/or less senior engineers. The engineer will set technical direction for others on complex projects and perform peer reviews of their work. Responsibilities include reviewing customer requirements, proposals, and cost estimates, creating custom control and HMI programs using standard or customer-provided code, and developing custom device driver code. The role also requires attending Mechanical Design Reviews, entering I/O into controller programs, programming sequences based on timing charts, downloading programs, and commissioning control hardware. Debugging of both control hardware and software, including sequences, modes of operation, special functions, fault detection, and recovery, is a key aspect. Participation in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) is also expected.
