About The Position

An Automation Controls Engineer at Noveon works on a multitude of tasks concerning our production lines and more. This position will develop new HMI/PLC programs; creating, commissioning, and debugging structured text and ladder logic, and more. This role is responsible for helping to create, manage, and train others in all things automation. This position must demonstrate strong communication and organization skills, the ability to follow directions, and a strong action bias.

Requirements

  • Has a BS/MS in Electrical/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or 5+ years working at an industrial manufacturing facility and related instrumentation/automation certifications.
  • Is knowledgeable in the following software: PLC programming, Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell RS Studio, and Ignition SCADA system.
  • Is experienced in the design, operation, and maintenance of industrial control systems.
  • Has strong data and system analysis, troubleshooting, and teamwork skills.
  • Is familiar with robot programming languages such as INFORM.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Has excellent organization skills, persistence, good judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Can display excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in the same time frame.
  • Can work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with ProfiNET, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet IP, and Kepware.
  • Acquainted with High Performance HMI.
  • Comfortable in creating detailed schematics and models in CAD (AutoCAD preferred).
  • Familiar with MySQL or other relational databases.
  • Text-based programming (C, C++, Python) savvy.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, writing, and debugging PLC code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable.
  • Generating HMI screens for complex machinery and providing documentation for use and troubleshooting.
  • Managing electrical cabinet builds and field wiring.
  • Selecting and sizing electrical and electromechanical components such as servos, 3-phase motors, analog and digital sensors, and safety-rated components.
  • Training the internal team to support automated equipment after deployment.
  • Identifying, developing, and designing control panels, as well as providing improvements and upgrades to control systems.
  • Reporting performance trends/issues to management and recommending solutions.
  • Developing standard operating procedures and training personnel on all new systems.
  • Defining control system and instrumentation maintenance requirements and procedures.
  • Identifying instrumentation deficiencies and suggesting alternatives.
  • Assisting a multi-disciplinary engineering team in creating meaningful alarms and periodically checking their effectiveness.
