About The Position

Infravision is seeking an Automation & Controls Engineer to design, develop, integrate, test, commission, and support the industrial automation and control systems that power our purpose-built ground systems. Based onsite in Buda, Texas and reporting to the Lead Automation and Controls Engineer, this role works across controls, electrical systems, industrial networking, software integration, and field commissioning. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who is comfortable moving between PLC/HMI development, control-system hardware, industrial networks, software interfaces, and real-world troubleshooting. You will help build reliable, maintainable, secure automation solutions from requirements and architecture through factory testing, deployment, and lifecycle support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Approximately 3+ years of professional experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, systems integration, or a related discipline, with demonstrated PLC programming experience.
  • Hands-on experience with common industrial PLC platforms and HMI/SCADA systems. Experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Ignition, FactoryTalk, Wonderware, VTScada, or similar platforms is highly relevant.
  • Strong working knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP networking and experience with industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, CAN/CANbus, EtherCAT, MQTT, or similar technologies.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation, sensors, actuators, VFDs, motor controls, industrial electrical systems, and the ability to interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Working capability with one or more general-purpose programming or scripting languages such as Python, C/C++, C#, SQL, PowerShell, or Bash, and familiarity with APIs, databases, Git/version control, and structured software-development practices.
  • Hands-on experience testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting multidisciplinary systems using engineering and diagnostic tools such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, protocol analyzers, packet captures, and related software.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across software, electrical, mechanical, technician, operations, vendor, and customer teams and independently resolve multidisciplinary field issues.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, test, and maintain PLC-based industrial control systems using IEC 61131-3 languages, including Ladder Diagram, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, and related control methods.
  • Develop and configure HMI and SCADA applications, including operator displays, alarms, trends, data logging, diagnostics, user access, and integration with PLCs, databases, gateways, and enterprise systems.
  • Develop or review control-panel layouts, electrical schematics, I/O and loop drawings, network drawings, cable schedules, instrumentation documentation, and bills of materials; support component selection and panel build/test activities.
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communications using technologies such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, CAN/CANbus, EtherCAT, MQTT, serial communications, TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and network segmentation.
  • Build scripts, utilities, and interfaces using technologies such as Python, C/C++, C#, SQL, PowerShell/Bash, JSON/XML, REST APIs, messaging systems, and databases to connect controls with external applications and services.
  • Integrate PLCs, sensors, RTUs, gateways, and industrial computers with edge and cloud architectures, including telemetry, data processing, remote diagnostics, local web applications, and store-and-forward solutions for intermittent connectivity.
  • Apply practical industrial cybersecurity principles, including segmentation, firewall and access-control configuration, secure remote access, credential/certificate management, backups, version control, logging, and separation of control functions from less-trusted networks.
  • Develop and execute unit, I/O, integration, FAT/SAT, communications, failure-mode, alarm/interlock, performance, and regression testing; commission systems in the field and perform root-cause troubleshooting across hardware, software, networking, and instrumentation.
  • Create and maintain functional and software design specifications, architectures, I/O lists, PLC/HMI documentation, interface-control documents, test and commissioning procedures, troubleshooting guides, release notes, and as-built records through formal engineering change control.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits aligned to experience, technical capability, and the Austin-area engineering market.
