About The Position

The Controls Associate position will be responsible for learning all aspects associated with the Controls Specialist or Controls Engineer role. This assignment (not to exceed 24 months) serves as an opportunity for the candidate to develop their knowledge and expertise within Controls, with the intent to transition to a Controls Specialist or Controls Engineer role upon successful completion of the assignment. The candidate will be regularly evaluated by the Operations Technology Group to gauge their development progress. The candidate will be given a skills matrix that defines the skill they are expected to master during their time as a Controls Associate. The Controls Associate will be involved in electrical projects dealing with controls, data acquisition, and other related issues. The selected candidate will focus on developing their skills and expertise in the design, installation, and upkeep of industrial control systems in a continuous process environment.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
  • Interest in completing Controls related coursework and/or trainings

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of configuring and troubleshooting Allen Bradley PowerFlex variable frequency drives
  • HMI development experience - FTView and/or Wonderware
  • Experience with maintaining production networks, including servers and managed switches
  • Knowledge of electrical components, electrical power distribution systems, PLC’s, instrumentation, and variable speed AC drives
  • Demonstrated process control experience in defining, designing, installing, and maintaining control logic systems and equipment in a continuous process manufacturing environment
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Some knowledge of configuring and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley Kinetix servo drives
  • Controls experience with a continuous web handling operation
  • Experience with DC drives
  • Some exposure to configuring and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley safety PLCs, I/O, and STO hardware

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience with design and installation of electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Acquiring thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles.
  • Acquiring and/or expanding knowledge in preparing equipment or material specifications for electrical and electronic PLC based systems
  • Acquiring knowledge of PLC programming and Rockwell Automation software.
  • Acquiring knowledge of configuring and troubleshooting Rockwell VFD drives.
  • Acquiring knowledge of HMI development.
  • Acquiring knowledge of production network maintenance.
  • Periodically investigate and make an analysis of electrical or electronic-based problems associated with the production operations, and take the appropriate action to correct these problems
  • Partner with maintenance planner to ensure electrical projects are properly scheduled on PMD’s, and partner with the maintenance engineer to develop a good electrical/electronic preventative maintenance system
  • Contribute to capital projects initiated by on-site engineering resources or the corporate Controls Team
  • Direct the work of outside contractors and maintenance staff during project installation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
