About The Position

Veeco’s Precision Surface Processing tools are delivered to customers with highly customized automation that directly impacts yield, uptime, and time‑to‑qualification. As an Automation Configuration Engineer, you own the configuration logic that translates electrical and fluid designs into reliable, production‑ready systems on aggressive manufacturing timelines. Your work ensures that every tool behaves exactly as the customer expects — in the factory and in the field — across Veeco’s advanced wet wafer processing platforms. Based in Horsham, PA, this role sits at the intersection of engineering design, manufacturing execution, and customer delivery, shaping how Veeco’s PSP systems perform in high‑volume semiconductor environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma (or equivalent), with related practical experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience configuring or programming automation systems in a manufacturing or capital equipment environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with PLC or PC‑based control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control documentation.
  • Willingness to work on‑site 3–5 days per week in Horsham, PA.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, highly preferred.
  • Experience developing automation scripts using ladder logic, function block, or structured text.
  • Skilled in configuring and troubleshooting I/O, sensors, actuators, and basic motion systems.
  • Diagnoses system‑level issues by correlating software behavior with electrical and mechanical states.
  • Comfortable working in deadline‑driven manufacturing environments where configuration accuracy is critical.
  • Effective at explaining technical issues and solutions to manufacturing, service, and customer stakeholders.
  • Administrator‑level proficiency with Microsoft Windows systems.
  • Semiconductor or advanced packaging equipment experience is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Translate electrical and plumbing schematics into configuration files and automation scripts that define how each system operates in production.
  • Own configuration changes during build and test, diagnosing root cause across software, electrical, and mechanical interfaces and implementing corrective updates.
  • Resolve complex system issues escalated from Manufacturing, Field Service, or Product Support, including direct customer interaction when needed.
  • Evaluate customer requirements during pre‑quote and order phases, identifying configuration impacts and risks early.
  • Improve configuration architectures and scripting templates to reduce development time, error rates, and rework.
  • Develop and maintain application installation and imaging scripts used across Manufacturing, Field Service, and customer sites.
  • Execute software unit and system‑level testing to validate configurations before release.
