About The Position

This position will provide automation and controls support for production. The role involves programming PLCs, designing manufacturing control devices, troubleshooting ladder logic, and providing maintenance support for automation and controls equipment on the production floor. The technician will also develop and upgrade electronic systems for monitoring equipment, program and maintain automatic data collection systems, assist with troubleshooting automation and controls problems, and design and fabricate supplemental equipment. Additionally, the role includes fabricating and wiring control panels, performing preventative maintenance, preparing electrical drawings, maintaining software and PLC files, and developing project schedules. A flexible schedule is required to ensure timely maintenance and project completion.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in electronics; 2 years’ experience in the maintenance and programming of PLC's and electronic control devices in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge and experience in ladder logic and PLC interfacing in a manufacturing / production environment (or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Computer literate and completely versed in ladder logic programming.
  • Complete understanding of laptop computer.
  • Ability to know/learn programming skills required to communicate with packaging hardware.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Program PLC’s and design manufacturing control devices that utilize PLC’s, sensors, motors, servos, etc. and be able to troubleshoot ladder logic problems.
  • Provide maintenance support for all production floor automation and controls equipment.
  • Develop and upgrade electronic systems for monitoring packaging and production equipment.
  • Program and maintain production floor automatic data collection systems.
  • Assist Maintenance Department personnel in troubleshooting automation and controls problems with production equipment.
  • Design and fabricate supplemental equipment for project related activities.
  • Fabricates and wires control panels for conveying systems and packaging equipment.
  • Perform automation and controls preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare electrical drawings as required.
  • Maintain and update Software and PLC files.
  • Develop project schedules, including costs, review dates, and timelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule in order to ensure that production machines are maintained and automation and controls projects are performed in a timely manner.
