About The Position

The Automation and Controls Engineering Manager is responsible for planning and overseeing the activities of all automations maintenance employees in the Hickory Complex and will provide overall management of site electrical systems and controls. This includes oversight of electrical infrastructure maintenance upgrades, engineering network architectures and maintenance, process and motor controls, human-equipment interface development and maintenance, development and maintenance of electrical drawings, technical knowledge database, and electrical and controls capital project leadership and support.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with company philosophy, procedures, and policies
  • Strong familiarity with manufacturing equipment, environment, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify, scope, propose, and implement capital improvement projects
  • Strong familiarity with performing low-to-high voltage electrical work, balancing loads, mapping and wiring complex circuits with large quantities of connections
  • Troubleshoot and correct faulty logic and control circuits; perform electrical installs, repairs, and tests on all plant equipment
  • Be a positive contribution in a team environment
  • Possess strong work ethics, motivation, initiative taking, and performs well without supervision
  • Four-year technical college degree (BS/EE) or equivalent manufacturing experience (10+ years)
  • 7+ years’ experience with HMI programming (Wonderware, Historian, and SQL tools), and PLC programming (AB; PLC5, SLC, Micro/Control Logix, and Siemens S7)
  • 7+ years’ experience with AC/DC drive and motion control systems, and with machine work design and support (architecture, switch configurations, and communication protocols)
  • 2+ years’ experience in a supervisory role

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Autocad or Solidworks is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the activities of all automation technicians in the Hickory Complex.
  • Support manufacturing and maintenance teams in troubleshooting advanced and complex electrical and controls issues, process improvements, and machine optimization.
  • Provide support and leadership on capital projects within areas of focus, provide PLC, drives, HMI network, wiring, and documentation expertise.
  • Provide support and leadership on any other capital projects as requested by corporate engineering director.
  • Lead development efforts of plant masterplan for electrical systems, controls, and automations.
  • Research equipment, best practices, and emerging technologies to source the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions while maintaining flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Provide mentorship to Automation and Multi-Craft Technicians.
  • Recommend solutions in process optimization and improvement teams while using any applicable analytical tool (i.e., Lean/Six Sigma, DOE, DMAIC, Root Cause).
