About The Position

The Automation AI Developer will play a critical role in leveraging artificial intelligence technologies, including custom GPT and virtual assistants, to modernize and streamline processes within the Department. This role requires an ACTIVE SECRET CLEARANCE. The developer will be responsible for the full lifecycle development of customizable SharePoint agents (virtual assistants), including research, design, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement. This includes defining chatbot scope, target users, and success metrics, collaborating with stakeholders, organizing and configuring relevant SharePoint content sources, customizing agent tone and response parameters, training agents, conducting user acceptance testing, establishing governance protocols, integrating authentication and permissions, and providing user documentation and training.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8+ years in IT, with at least 4 years of specialized SharePoint design, development, and administration experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in version migrations, including SharePoint 2007 to 2016.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 and Google for Government tools.
  • Secret Clearance is required.
  • Proficiency in custom list creation, form configuration, and comprehensive Site Settings navigation.
  • Implementation and governance of records management policies.
  • Expertise in out-of-the-box workflows and no-code workflow solutions, including reusable and site-specific workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with no-code design tools such as Publishing/Wiki pages, Master Pages, CSS, and page layouts.
  • Advanced knowledge of all out-of-the-box web parts, including filters and connections.
  • Deep expertise in SharePoint, including Designer tools and InfoPath innovations.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell, SQL Server, Active Directory, and Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate).
  • Business process diagramming with Microsoft Visio.
  • Experience working within federal agency settings, preferably Department of State.
  • Familiarity with managing sensitive or classified data in SIPR/NIPR environments.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Stay current with Department AI initiatives, including StateChat (CoDrafter and customGPT), Northstar, Copilot, ORION, and AIRE.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies to identify opportunities for innovation and process enhancement.
  • Work across bureaus and departments to define technical requirements, identify priority use cases, and deploy effective solutions aligned with organizational needs.
  • Ensure proficiency in evolving M365 and SharePoint capabilities and best practices, applying this knowledge to all deployments.
  • Ensure all development and deployment activities comply with Department security, privacy, and responsible AI principles.
  • Manage the health, configuration, security, and modernization of SharePoint farms, sites, and service applications.
  • Serve as Tier 3 technical lead for troubleshooting, development, and migration projects between SharePoint versions (e.g., SharePoint 2007 to 2016).
  • Design, test, and deploy SharePoint infrastructure solutions.
  • Support office operations related to information flow and documentation.
  • Develop and implement governance plans for SharePoint environments, including site provisioning processes and data retention policies.
  • Introduce new features and innovations using Power Apps and Power Automate workflows to improve processes and productivity.
  • Execute the full lifecycle development of customizable SharePoint agents (virtual assistants), including research, design, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
  • Define chatbot scope, target users, and success metrics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine requirements and priorities.
  • Organize and configure relevant SharePoint content sources for reliable AI responses.
  • Customize agent tone, response style, and conversation parameters to meet organizational requirements.
  • Train agents with sample queries to ensure response validity and effectiveness.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing and document results for refinements.
  • Establish governance protocols for agent management, content updates, and responsible AI practices.
  • Integrate authentication and permissions controls to maintain compliance with SharePoint security frameworks.
  • Provide complete user documentation, quick guides, FAQs, and training materials.
  • Conduct periodic user training sessions to aid in agent adoption and usage.
  • Analyze feedback and usage data to refine agent performance and deploy updates.
