About The Position

As an Automated Systems & Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing, coaching, training, and monitoring the performance of our Automation staff across various shifts. Your key responsibilities include managing Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Unscheduled Maintenance for all Automated Systems in the Distribution Center, encompassing ASRS, STV, AGV, Shoe Sorter and conveyor systems. Additionally, you will be tasked with maintaining an organized inventory of spare parts in the workshop. Collaborating closely with the Manager, you will play a vital role in budget submissions. Your role extends to coordinating and evaluating vendor support activities related to all Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and Automation equipment. You will work in tandem with external contractors on repairs to MHE, ensuring efficient and effective resolutions. Furthermore, you will maintain accountabilities for all MHE and Scanning equipment within the warehouse, overseeing repairs through contractors and ensuring seamless operations. Your role as an Automated Systems & Facilities Manager is integral to the overall performance and reliability of our distribution center's automated systems. In addition to your automation responsibilities, you will oversee the facilities and utilities operations of the distribution center. This includes managing building infrastructure systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting. Monitoring utility consumption (electricity, gas, and water) to drive cost efficiencies. You will ensure the facility remains compliant with applicable building codes and safety regulations, coordinate capital improvement and renovation projects with external contractors, and maintain a safe, well-functioning environment that supports the broader distribution center operations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in the use of Autodesk and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) programs, along with a solid understanding of technical drawings, is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of manager experience, demonstrating the ability to coach and train staff effectively.
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in Photo Eye, PLC, Pneumatic controls, Motor Controller panels, controllers, and Automation technician functions.
  • 1 to 2 years of direct experience with automated Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and Robotic Arms.
  • Knowledge and experience with Variable Speed Frequency Drives (VFD) are essential.
  • Effective collaboration skills with all levels of Meyer staff, vendors, and external contacts are a must.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Computer proficiency with a requirement for MS Office knowledge.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to handle situations professionally and develop timely solutions for unexpected issues.
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Mental and physical capacities necessary to perform job duties effectively.
  • Willingness to work any shift, including overtime.
  • In-depth knowledge of the electrical industry.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Mechanical or Electrical Education program or an associate degree in mechanical or electrical technology is preferred.
  • Additional functional experience in areas such as Battery Operations, Forklift Operations, Maintenance Inventory Control, etc., is preferred.
  • Previous experience as an automation & facilities manager is highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate all Preventative Maintenance (PM) activities promptly for equipment under the purview of the Automation Department.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, coaching, and timely performance management of staff.
  • Ensure that all personnel working with Automated Systems are trained in the current Safety Standards applicable to equipment in the Distribution Center.
  • Conduct regular Lockout Tagout Audits on all Automation Maintenance Personnel.
  • Identify and conduct training sessions for Material Handling Equipment (MHE), Automated Storage Retrieval System (ASRS), and Automation equipment.
  • Ensure that all maintenance requests are accurately updated in the Maintenance software to validate the hours spent on repairs.
  • Troubleshoot motor control, variable frequency drives, and soft-starts up to 480 Volts.
  • Maintain position feedback devices, encoders, load cells, hydraulic systems, and control systems.
  • Regularly update the database with issues encountered during PMs and unscheduled maintenance requests from the Distribution Center.
  • Recommend solutions for enhancing the performance of MHE and automation equipment.
  • Manage inventory and prepare quarterly reports on the usage of spare parts; take action to requisition new spares to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety requirements in the workplace.
  • Lead regular safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safe work practices and communicate updates to safety policies and procedures.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; document findings and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Enforce proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all personnel operating within the Distribution Center.
  • Conduct periodic safety risk assessments for automation and facilities operations, identifying hazards and recommending mitigating controls.
  • Generate reports on CMMS Software to evaluate repair trends and make recommendations to management.
  • Provide weekly status reports for all systems maintained in the Distribution Center.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and shipping to/receiving from contractor repair for all Computer Scanning equipment.
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides for all ASRS and Automation equipment.
  • Authorize purchase orders for work to be done and parts to be ordered.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of building systems — including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting — to ensure a safe and functional work environment.
  • Monitor utility consumption (electricity, gas, and water) and implement cost-reduction initiatives to lower operational expenses.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for facility repairs, renovations, and capital improvement projects, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs and confirm compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
  • Manage facility-related work orders, ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation in the maintenance management system.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the VP of Distribution & Facilities.
