About The Position

ProtechGeo & Material Testing Ltd. is a geotechnical consulting company based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Our team has decades of combined experience and expertise serving clients in Alberta and Western Canada. We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated AutoCAD Technologist to join our engineering team. In this role, you will prepare accurate residential engineering drawings and construction documents, working closely with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality drafting solutions. The ideal candidate has strong AutoCAD proficiency, a solid understanding of residential construction practices, and a commitment to producing accurate, code-compliant drawings in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of AutoCAD drafting experience.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with residential drafting standards is required.
Strong understanding of residential construction practices, structural detailing, and applicable building codes.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and engineering drawings.
Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related field is not required but considered an asset.
Experience with permit drawings and municipal submission requirements is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Prepare detailed residential structural drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD.
Produce foundation, framing, floor, roof, beam, column, and connection details based on engineering designs and calculations.
Develop permit, construction, and as-built drawings for new homes, renovations, additions, garages, secondary suites, and other residential structures.
Review architectural drawings, site plans, and engineering markups to produce accurate and coordinated drafting packages.
Revise drawings in response to engineer, client, builder, municipal, and regulatory comments.
Ensure all drawings comply with applicable building code NBC 2023 (AE), engineering standards, municipal requirements, and company drafting standards.
Coordinate with engineers, architects, designers, builders, and project stakeholders throughout all phases of a project.
Assist with permit application packages and provide technical documentation as required.
Maintain accurate project files, drawing revisions, and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
Identify and resolve drafting conflicts or discrepancies before project issuance.
Maintain and update company CAD standards, templates, and drawing libraries.
Prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while meeting quality standards and project deadlines.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance drafting processes, efficiency, and quality.
