About The Position

This position reports to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for operating an auto punch press. The operator will be trained on all steps of the job, including stretching exercises at the beginning of each shift, reviewing Job Safety Analysis sheets, safety checklists, personal protective equipment (PPE), and daily clean-up instructions. The role requires adherence to work instructions, manual lifting of up to 50 pounds, and operating equipment such as electric pallet trucks. Safety is paramount, requiring knowledge of emergency stop locations, verification of safety features like emergency stops and light curtains, and ensuring the Press Release Form is properly signed before operation. The operator must visually inspect parts for defects, check flatness, verify inventory tags and blueprints against work orders, and match parts to blueprints. Training will cover feeding material through the straightener, feeder, and die, ensuring adequate lubrication, monitoring the loop between presses and scrap conveyor, and using tools like an air wire twister. Non-conforming material must be tagged and moved, and the end coil strip saved after the run. Thorough cleaning of the press and surrounding area is required. The role also emphasizes working safely, paying attention to surroundings, and reporting any injuries, accidents, or near misses immediately. Understanding and following all ABB safety policies, training, and hazard communication information, including wearing required PPE, is essential. The job involves frequent gripping, turning, pushing, bending, occasional reaching above shoulder level, and pulling. The ability to walk and stand for long periods, maintain a demanding production pace, and possess dexterity and hand-eye coordination for various tools and equipment is necessary. This includes assisting with press-line equipment setup and clearing die jams. The operator must be able to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, read, write, use a calculator, and interpret work orders, blueprints, inventory tags, and shipping labels. Regular work attendance, including daily and weekend overtime on short notice, is required.

Requirements

Ability to perform essential functions for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week.

Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, cut resistant gloves, and safety sleeves when required.

Ability to frequently grip with hands, turn, push, and bend, along with occasional reaching above shoulder level, and pulling.
Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time and to keep up with the demanding pace of production.
Possess the dexterity and hand-eye coordination to utilize various hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to complete a variety of complex task.
Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
Ability to read, write, use a calculator.
Ability to read and comprehend work orders, blueprints, inventory tags, and shipping labels.
Ability to maintain regular work attendance, including arriving at work on time and remaining at work until the end of the schedules work day.
Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice.

Responsibilities

Perform essential functions of an auto press operator in a safe manner.
Adhere to all Work Instructions.
Manually lift up to 50 pounds.
Operate electric pallet truck.
Know the location of Emergency Stops for the press being run.
Check that Emergency Stops and light curtains are working properly.
Verify the Press Release Form (QFSL-A001) is signed by a supervisor before running the press for each order.
Visually inspect parts for burrs, chips, slug marks, bent teeth, and missing features.
Inspect a part before running on continuous.
Check flatness 3 times per coil (back to back flatness check).
Verify inventory tags, coil #’s, and blueprints match the work order.
Match the part to the blueprint.
Feed material through the straightener, feeder, and up to the starting point in the die, slowly inching the material through the die.
Ensure the strip is receiving plenty of lubrication.
Monitor the loop between the presses and scrap conveyor to ensure it is running.
Use an air wire twister to wire the stacks of lamination.
Turn off the press, dereeler, straightener, and feeder at the end of the die run.
Fill out a Red Tag for all Non-Con material and move it to the Non-Con area.
Remove the end coil strip from the die after the flywheel has stopped and save it to be sent to the Tool Room with the die.
Wipe all oil off the die and clean the area thoroughly.
Work safely and pay attention to surroundings.
Immediately report injuries, accidents, and near misses to the Supervisor.
