About The Position

At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager - NEMA. The Auto Punch Press Operator is responsible for performing essential functions in a safe manner, which includes operating the auto press for lamination. Operators will be trained in all steps of the job, including stretching exercises at the beginning of every shift, reviewing Job Safety Analysis sheets, safety checklists, personal protective equipment (PPE), and daily clean-up instructions. The role requires adherence to the Work Instructions Manual, including lifting requirements up to 50 pounds, and training on operating electric pallet trucks. Operators must be aware of Emergency Stop locations and verify their functionality, as well as the functionality of light curtains. A Press Release Form must be verified and signed by a supervisor before running each order. The operator will visually inspect parts for defects, check flatness three times per coil, and verify inventory tags, coil numbers, and blueprints match the work order. Training includes feeding material through the straightener, feeder, and into the die, ensuring adequate lubrication, monitoring the loop between presses and scrap conveyor, and using an air wire twister for lamination stacks. At the end of a die run, the operator will safely shut down equipment, remove the end coil strip for the Tool Room, and thoroughly clean the die and surrounding area. The role emphasizes working safely, paying attention to surroundings, and immediately reporting any injuries, accidents, or near misses. It also requires understanding and following all ABB safety policies, training, and hazard communication information, including wearing required PPE.

Requirements

Ability to perform essential functions for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week.
Follow the Work Instructions Manual lifting requirements up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate electric pallet truck.
Knowledge of Emergency Stop locations for the press being run.
Ability to check Emergency Stops and light curtains to be working properly.
Ability to verify the Press Release Form (QFSL-A001) is located at the press and is signed by a supervisor before running the press.
Ability to visually inspect parts for burrs, chips, slug marks, bent teeth and missing features.
Ability to check flatness 3 times per coil.
Ability to verify inventory tags, coil #’s and blueprints match the work order.
Ability to match the part to the blueprint.
Ability to feed the material through the straightener, feeder and up to the starting point in the die and slowly inch the material through the die.
Ability to ensure the strip is receiving plenty of lubrication.
Ability to keep an eye on the loop between the presses and scrap conveyor to be running.
Ability to use an air wire twister to wire the stacks of lamination.
Ability to turn off the press, dereeler, straightener and the feeder at the end of the die run.
Ability to fill out a Red Tag for all Non Con material and move it to the Non Con area.
Ability to remove the end coil strip out of the die and save it to be sent to Tool Room with the die, after the flywheel has stopped.
Ability to wipe all the oil off of the die and clean area thoroughly.
Ability to work safely and pay attention to your surroundings.
Ability to immediately report injuries, accidents and near misses to Supervisor.
Ability to understand and follow all ABB safety policies, safety training and hazard communication information.
Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as: safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, cut resistant gloves, and safety sleeves when required.
Ability to lift and or carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to frequently grip with hands, turn, push, and bend, along with occasional reaching above shoulder level, and pulling.
Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time and to keep up with the demanding pace of production.
Possess the dexterity and hand-eye coordination to utilize various hand tools, power tools, and other equipment to complete a variety of complex task.
Ability to assist in performing press-line equipment set-up and clearing of die jams.
Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
Ability to read, write, use a calculator.
Ability to read and comprehend work orders, blueprints, inventory tags, and shipping labels.
Ability to maintain regular work attendance, including arriving at work on time and remaining at work until the end of the schedules work day.
Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice.

Responsibilities
