At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner. This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager - NEMA. The Auto Punch Press Operator is responsible for performing essential functions in a safe manner, which includes operating the auto press for lamination. Operators will be trained in all steps of the job, including stretching exercises at the beginning of every shift, reviewing Job Safety Analysis sheets, safety checklists, personal protective equipment (PPE), and daily clean-up instructions. The role requires adherence to the Work Instructions Manual, including lifting requirements up to 50 pounds, and training on operating electric pallet trucks. Operators must be aware of Emergency Stop locations and verify their functionality, as well as the functionality of light curtains. A Press Release Form must be verified and signed by a supervisor before running each order. The operator will visually inspect parts for defects, check flatness three times per coil, and verify inventory tags, coil numbers, and blueprints match the work order. Training includes feeding material through the straightener, feeder, and into the die, ensuring adequate lubrication, monitoring the loop between presses and scrap conveyor, and using an air wire twister for lamination stacks. At the end of a die run, the operator will safely shut down equipment, remove the end coil strip for the Tool Room, and thoroughly clean the die and surrounding area. The role emphasizes working safely, paying attention to surroundings, and immediately reporting any injuries, accidents, or near misses. It also requires understanding and following all ABB safety policies, training, and hazard communication information, including wearing required PPE.
